T&G backs Blair comments on two-tier workforce

The
Transport and General Workers’ Union has welcomed Tony Blair’s promised
commitment to tackling the problems of a two-tier workforce, but says it still
has concerns over the Private Finance Initiative (PFI).

In
a fringe meeting of the public service unions Bill Morris, T&G general
secretary said: "Despite the Prime Minister’s well intended words, the
problem of PFI has not gone away. My members are still the victims of pay cuts,
pension robbery and job insecurity. One speech does not change these realities.

"However,
we welcome the Prime Ministers words. We welcome the commitment to tackling the
problems of a two-tier workforce together.
