The
new head of the Commission for Racial Equality has called for foreign staff to
take British citizen tests.
Beverley
Bernard, who has taken over for Gurbux Singh, said that foreign employees need
to show an appreciation of Britishness.
"Anybody
that comes to live here or a multi-national that wants to relocate in Britain
needs to take on board and appreciate some of the concepts that are British: an
intolerance to racism, an acceptance of diverse community and a respect and
tolerance for other cultures," she said.

Bernard
is concerned that Britain’s race relations, which is "a model for the
world", could be threatened by the Government’s plans to create a single
equalities body.
