Safety
bosses are considering alternative ways of rescuing mine workers in the
aftermath of the dramatic Pennsylvania mine incident.
The
Health and Safety Executive has published a new study looking at alternatives
and their relative merits for the future of the coal mining industry.
The
research examines current mines rescue structures and organisation from around
the world looking at the geographic spread of mines; probable future for coal
production; costs of rescue provision and the potential for other countries’
rescue structures to meet existing UK legislative requirements.
The
findings have been presented in booklet formÂ
and is aimed at owners, managers, safety reps and at people whose duties
include the assessment, design, supervision, monitoring, installation or
withdrawal of free-standing supports.
