‘Immoral’ intimidation of local council staff attacked by union

Around
a million local authorities staff are expected to take part in today’s 24-hour
walkout over the annual pay rise..

Unions
are demanding double the 3 per cent offer.

Local
councils have been accused by unions of intimidating staff to put them off
taking part.

The
T&G trade union claims that employees were being threatened with
redundancy, pay and pensions cuts and disciplinary action if they took part in
the strike action.

Jack
Dromey, national organiser at the T&G, said it was “immoral” for councils
to intimidate staff.

Dave
Prentis, general secretary of Unison, said: “The government has got to make
more money available if local authorities if it wants to make sure this dispute
does not drag on.”
