The
number of permanent civil service staff fell by around 2,700 over the six
months to 2001, show the latest Cabinet Office figures.
The
number of full-time civil servants dropped to 480,000 but there was a rise in
the number of casual staff where numbers swelled by 1,200.
The
total number of permanent and casual staff decreased by of over 1,400, or 0.3
per cent in comparison to April 2001 figures.
The
total headcount of staff now stands at 504,500 with part-time staff accounting
for 14.4 per cent – a rise of just over one per cent.
