Quality of staff slips as HR cuts cost of hiring

Employers’
attempts to cut spiralling recruitment costs are lowering the quality of the
staff being taken on, according to exclusive research.

A
third of the 300 HR and procurement professionals surveyed claim that driving
costs down has resulted in a lower standard of staff being employed.

Furthermore,
over 70 per cent of HR managers admit their inability to secure suitable
candidates within required time-scales has impacted on the performance of the
business, claims The Hidden Cost of Recruitment report by Netengines.

The
most important business driver behind the recruitment strategy for HR managers
is a pressure to achieve cost reductions. Six out of 10 HR respondents feel
compelled to achieve savings, claims the research.  

Jackie
Alexander, recruitment partner of Pricewaterhouse-Coopers, said, "The
research rightly shows that cost is an issue and the danger for the HR
professional is being squeezed between the need to recruit quality people into
the business and the agencies not wanting to reduce their percentage for a
placement."
