Manslaughter charges being considered over Paddington crash

Railtrack and one of its senior managers could face
manslaughter charges over the Paddington train crash in 1999.

The Crown Prosecution Service has begun a fresh inquiry into
the rail disaster and is considering evidence gathered by the British Transport
Police to determine if the rail infrastructure company neglected to maintain
safety procedures.

Evidence submitted to the Cullen inquiry into the crash that
killed 312 people is inadmissible because victims gave evidence to the inquiry
on the condition that it would not be used in court.

The crash happened when a Thames Trains commuter service
passed a red light then smashed into an oncoming Great Western Express near
Ladbroke Grove station in West London.
