Rolls-Royce staff at its Ansty plant will stage a one-day
strike next Friday over plans to cut jobs.
Yesterday, talks collapsed between union officials and
management over Roll-Royce’s plan to cut 1,300 engineering jobs at the Midlands
plant. Around 600 of the plant’s employees have been issued with compulsory
redundancy notices, claimed the MSF union.
A MSF spokesman said, “We need the company to show that it
is willing to listen by withdrawing compulsory redundancies. We will continue
with more strikes if the management doesn’t come back to the negotiating
table.”
Roll-Royce management plans to offer job transfers to 300
engineers at the plant to off-set the impact of the job losses.
