Threat of strike action lifted at Luton Airport

THE threat of strike action at London Luton Airport has been
lifted after members of the T&G union voted to accept a new deal over
planned wage cuts.

If a deal had not been agreed a series of four-hour strikes
would have occurred over Christmas. The planned strikes were over proposals to
reduce wage levels by between 30 and 50 per cent.

But T&G union members agreed to accept the new deal,
which includes bigger compensation packages and an increase in long-service
payments for those workers who decide to leave.

 “We are very pleased
with the outcome of the ballot. We are now in a position to go forward and try
and make the airport as successful and as profitable a business as we can for
the sake of everyone,” said Russell McCallion, human resources director at
London Luton Airport.
