Demand for IT staff is continuing to rise, with 57 per cent of employers within the sector looking to take on new employees, according to a National Computing Centre (NCC) survey.
Salaries among IT staff reflect the increasingly competitive nature of the labour market. The IT sector continues to grow above the rate of inflation, with an average rate of increase of 5.2 per cent. Location is a big influence on pay with salaries in Greater London 18 per cent higher than average, while the divergence between the south east and the rest of the UK lies at 10 per cent.
“The growth in salaries among IT professional has not only outstripped the rate of inflation, but average earnings as well,” says Michael Gough, NCC’s chief executive.
Another finding revealed that 70 per cent of respondents identified a need for new skills, with nearly half of those keen to acquire Internet and e-commerce.
The NCC received 509 responses from organisations employing 10, 813 staff.
