Personnel Today Awards 2000 winners announced

Last night saw the culmination of months of tension as the winners of the Personnel Today Awards 2000 were announced at a gala dinner at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.

The overall winner – and winner of the Focus Quality Services award for excellence in training – was Asda Stores. Paul McKinley and his HR team were recognised for their Stores of Learning initiative. The judges applauded the team for its vision and its creative approach to management training.

Lex Service won the Rebus HR Services award for best HR strategy in line with business for its HR department’s role in improving the company’s profitability and shareholder value.

The winner of the Easycando award for e-learning was the Royal Bank of Scotland which delivers online learning to 20,000 of its staff.

Pfizer Global won the Frazer Jones award for innovation in recruitment and retention in recognition of its initiative to help candidates take up their new position at the right time for both them and the company

Steve Daniels of Ulster Bank was named winner of the Dibb Lupton Alsop award for HR manager of the year for his work in transforming the company’s personnel department from an operational to a strategic function.

The winner of the TMP Worldwide award for outsourcing was Unisys for a training outsourcing programme which increased satisfaction levels among both customers and employees while achieving a 36 per cent reduction of training costs

The PWA award for HR excellence through technology was awarded to British Telecom for an e-HR initiative which, among other things, enabled the sifting of 5,000 graduate job applications from receipt of application form to offer letter in just 72 hours.

The Nationwide Building Society won the DfEE award for promoting age diversity in the workplace for its ongoing initiatives which have achieved substantial financial benefits through reduced staff turnover.

The totaljobs.com award for organisational change went to the Forte Hotel Group for its £10m customer service initiative, called Commitment to Excellence, which boosted guest and employee satisfaction.

A proactive scheme to prevent sickness through work-related problems secured British Gas the Occupational Health magazine award for managing employee health.
