The Industrial Society is calling on the Government to drop its opposition to extending legislation on employee consultation.
In its report, The Silent Stakeholders: Reforming workforce consultation law, the society says recent cases such as BMW’s treatment of its Rover workforce show an urgent need for better workplace consultation.
The report argues that the Government’s position on employee consultation is inconsistent with the wide body of evidence showing consultation has proven business benefits.
It says UK-specific legislation would also cut the bureaucratic burden created by a piecemeal approach to legislation on consultation as well as recognising the rights of employees.
