London proves a prime site for on-line training

On-line training is the big growth area for most large companies in London, a study has found.

Researchers found that 56 per cent of big companies in central London use on-line technology to deliver training and development.

The survey of 1,200 businesses was carried out for Focus Central London, the training and enterprise council.

Focus’s head of research Mike Fenton said, “The next few years should see substantial growth in Internet- and intranet-based solutions for training and development. This will present real opportunities for increasing the cost-effectiveness of training and development and its link to productivity improvements.”

Fenton added, “More and more companies are subscribing to specialist HR sites and bespoke intranet services.”

Focus found that 56 per cent of larger companies currently access training and development material from the Internet, with financial companies the most proactive at 65 per cent, followed by creative industries (57 per cent) and professional services (49 per cent). Retail firms were the least likely to access Internet training with only 36 per cent opting to do so.
