A medical receptionist has settled her age discrimination claim against a Scottish doctor’s surgery for £6,000.
Ruth McNeil, 66, was asked to leave her part-time post in Edinburgh when her employers discovered she was over 65, reports the BBC.

She was supported by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) Scotland, and a three-day case was due to be held but the practice settled out of court beforehand.
Muriel Robison, the EHRC Scotland’s head of legal enforcement, said: “Sadly, despite legislation aimed at tackling age discrimination, people can still be treated unfairly at work because of their age.”
