Industrial action could be on the cards if talks between
British Midland and its ground handling staff breakdown without agreement.
A meeting is being held between the GMB and British Midland
following the sale of the airline’s ground handling operation to the Go-Ahead
Group.
Derek Addison, development officer for the GMB, said,
"We are very concerned about the consultation and about the future of more
than 1,000 GMB members and their terms and conditions of employment."
Addison told Personnel Today that the GMB would ballot its
members on possible industrial action if they were not happy with the meeting’s
outcome.
A British Midland spokesman said the company had always
planned to consult fully with its staff and that it was optimistic of reaching
agreement with the ground handling staff.
