A Teeside coroner victimised one of
his officers who supported a colleague’s claim of sex discrimination, an
industrial tribunal in Newcastle found this week.
The victimisation by Michael
Sheffield followed a complaint by a female employee in August 1998 over
offensive remarks by senior coroner’s officer Mr Stevenson.
Following the suspension of Stevenson,
she was shunned by staff and Sheffield stopped social conversation with them,
adopted negative body language and avoided eye contact, the tribunal found.
Compensation will be determined in
the next month.
