The
minister for education and lifelong learning, Jane Davidson, has told employers
in Wales to get behind a government campaign to improve the future workforce in
the province.
The
Aimhigher Wales initiative aims to raise employers’ awareness of the economy’s
need for a greater number and more diverse range of graduates.
Davidson
said the campaign was designed to inspire and motivate young people to consider
higher education as an option because of the changing nature of work.
It
is aimed at 13- and 14-year-olds from backgrounds that do not have a tradition
of going on to higher education.
Davidson
called on employers to work more closely with higher education institutions to
help develop future managers and employees.
