The hourly rate paid to a mechanic is usually between £49 to £140, compared with £30 to £100 an hour for a junior barrister after five years’ training.
And after five years at university, three years at a hospital and one year as a GP registrar, a locum doctor typically earns between £44 to £63 an hour.
