The
Health and Safety Commission (HSC) has welcomed the establishment of the new
Rail Safety and Standards Board, announced by the rail regulator.
The
new organisation will produce the industry’s health and safety plan and monitor
its performance and standards on safety.
HSC
chair Bill Callaghan said the new body would help foster a culture of
continuous safety improvements by providing leadership for the whole industry.
The
Health and Safety Executive will still be the independent regulator for the
industry, but will work closely with the new body.
The
creation of the Rail Safety and Standards Board was recommended by Lord Cullen
as part of the Ladbroke Grove Inquiry report.
