Businesses
hit by the foot and mouth crisis are failing to take up government aid because
of red tape according to the British Chambers of Commerce.
More
than 40 per cent of companies surveyed by the BCC were affected by the epidemic
but less than 10 per cent have applied for government help.
A
spokesman for the BCC blamed red tape for the low percentage of firms applying
for compensation.
“The
complexity of the forms and the length of time it takes to receive any aid is
most likely the reason why so many firms have not applied.”
