Uncertified ‘IT technicians’ put businesses at risk

Small and medium-sized businesses are putting themselves at risk by allowing enthusiastic but unskilled staff to maintain or repair their technology, experts have warned.

The majority of small businesses allocate a member of staff to carry out IT maintenance in addition to their role as an administrator or electrician, for example.

But although the individual is perceived as an IT expert by their employers, they rarely have the certification to prove their skills, according to IT training firm Computeach.

The warning came as Computeach launched the CompTIA A+ qualification as a ‘blended learning’ course.

A+ is aimed at individuals who want to sit an IT professional exam to improve their skills in troubleshooting and building PCs.
