Cable & Wireless to cut another 10% from UK workforce

Telecoms group Cable & Wireless is to cut a further 10% of its UK workforce as it struggles to remain competitive.

The company has revealed that 480 staff would be axed from the business over the next year, on top of the 600 European redundancies announced in November 2004.

Cable & Wireless said it was attempting to reduce its cost base to remain competitive in a highly competitive market.

The job cuts are part of wider shake-up aimed at saving £50m in annual costs by March 2006.
