Loan pay-offs proposed for top public sector graduates

Graduates
who choose key public sector posts could have their student loans paid off for
them if new proposals are accepted.

The
plan, from education secretary Charles Clarke, would enable schools and health
authorities to offer the deal to the best graduates.

The
Government is considering the scheme as it fears graduates may ignore
lower-paid public sector jobs once top-up fees hit students in 2006.
