Stigma deters employees from disclosing mental health problems

Employees with mental health problems begin from a default position of not disclosing to their employer that they have a mental disorder and need a reason to disclose, according to a study.

A fear of being stigmatised is a major barrier to disclosure, although possible workplace interventions such as education and training, and an organisational culture of acceptance, can make it more likely that an employee will choose to disclose.
