KPMG director Andrew Wetherall jailed for expenses fraud

A KPMG director convicted of stealing £545,000 through expenses claims has been jailed for four years.

Andrew Wetherell submitted claims over a five-year period to pay for five-star holidays, designer watches and cars.

He said he committed the offences to pay for his second wife’s demands for a £15,000-a-month lifestyle.

The director defrauded the accountancy firm between 2002 and 2008 by submitting multiple claims for legitimate trips while also claiming for personal holidays, including breaks to Thailand and Singapore.

Outside court, a spokesman for KPMG said he was sacked last year.

“Since this case, KPMG has made changes to its internal expenses procedures to prevent fraud of the type committed by Mr Wetherall being perpetrated today,” he said.
