Sikh PC wins Met Police discrimination tribunal case

A Sikh police officer has won her race and religious discrimination case against the Metropolitan police.

Amandeep Kaur Grewal is to receive a five-figure compensation payment after a tribunal ruled she suffered racist and religious humiliation while in training at the Met Police’s training school in Hendon.

PC Lucinda Rigby singled her out for unfair criticism and treatment, making “inappropriate” and “hurtful” remarks.

The panel rejected the Met’s claim that trainers had considered her skills poor, the Evening Standard has reported.

The panel ruled: “PC Rigby told Grewal that other students had been laughing at her. This was an inappropriate and potentially undermining comment.”

However, the tribunal ruled that Grewal had not suffered racial and religious harrassment.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “The Metropolitan Police Service will give full and careful consideration to the decision. PC Grewal remains a valued member of the force.”
