More than 1,850 people across 30 countries logged onto their computers last Thursday to take part in a virtual industrial dispute. They entered the virtual reality world Second Life and moved their avatars [virtual reality characters to the uninitiated] to seven IBM locations to protest against the computer giant’s real-world activities. Real IBM workers in Italy are protesting against the real company’s decision to slash bonuses worth up to 1,000 real Euros per person. The TUC sent some avatars of its own to show solidarity.
