Talks aimed at averting British Airways cabin crew strike adjourned

Unions and British Airways have adjourned talks to avert strike action after two days of deadlock

Transport & General Workers Union (T&G) members have backed action that could lead to a three-day walkout over sick leave, pay and staffing. Talks are expected to resume on Friday after BA said yesterday that the company was dedicated to avoiding strikes.

Chief executive Willie Walsh said the airline was prepared to negotiate, but added there was no justification for industrial action.

A BA spokesman added: “We have made clear to the T&G our commitment to keep talking for as long as it takes in our search for a breakthrough.” 

The union said the overwhelming support for a strike put the onus on BA to change its approach. It has not named strike dates, and said it felt a negotiated settlement was still a possibility.
