HR loses place on the board after resignation of personnel chief at Arcadia

The HR director of Arcadia has resigned and will not be replaced on the retail group’s board when she leaves later this month.

Kim Morton, who has worked for Arcadia for more than 10 years, will continue to be involved with the company’s £10m retail training academy.

Arcadia, owner of high-street brands including Topshop, Dorothy Perkins and Burton, announced Morton’s departure at the same time as that of finance director Paul Budge.

The company would not comment on the implications for its HR department in the wake of Morton’s departure, but Philip Green, the billionaire owner of Arcadia, played down the significance of the announcements.

“A couple of people are leaving – big deal,” he said. “We employ 43,000 people and people come and people go. That’s the industry. If Thierry Henry leaves Arsenal, they’ll find someone else to score the goals.”
