HR winning battle for the boardroom

HR’s battle to win a place on the board is gaining momentum, according to research by Personnel Today’s sister publication IRS Employment Review.

More than three-quarters of the public sector employers questioned said their organisation had an HR director on the board. And half of the HR directors in the private sector said they reported to the chair or chief executive.

The manufacturing sector lagged behind with fewer than 40% of its HR directors reporting to the chair or chief executive in the fourth annual IRS HR Roles and Responsibilities survey.

Of the 179 larger employers in the study, eight out of 10 said they had a director who was responsible for HR.

The research indicates that the HR community is finally beginning to achieve its goal of becoming a more strategic function and having a place on the top table.
