The
Transport and General Workers Union (T&G) – the largest trade union at
British Airways (BA) – has confirmed that baggage handlers, drivers and
check-in staff at BA, along with sales and admin staff, have voted by a large
majority to take strike action.
The
strike over a long-running pay dispute will take place next Friday, 27 August.
“These
votes by low-paid but essential workers at BA are very clear,” said Brendan
Gold, T&G chief negotiator and national secretary for civil air transport.
“Taking
strike action is always a last resort, but the consistent failure by BA to
address the issues seriously has led to our people feeling they have no
alternative.”
The
strike action will affect BA operations at Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham,
Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and will run from 4.30am on Friday 27 August
to 4.30am the following day.

“BA
needs to recognise that they have to deal with the pay issue before they tackle
other complex issues,” added Gold. “That’s why we urge them to come back with
an offer that recognises this.”
