Unison
is pressing Centrica, British Gas’ owner, for justification of all proposed job
losses amid claims that trade unions representing staff were not consulted
prior to the firm’s announcement last week that it is to cut 1,450 jobs.
The
union said this constituted a fundamental breach of the partnership agreement
in place at Centrica.
Dave
Johnson, Unison senior national officer, said: “Our members are very angry over
the shabby way Centrica management has handled this issue, and we will argue
strenuously against these ill-thought out job losses.”
The
union said it wanted clearer understanding of the logic behind the job losses,
and argued that the business case for the cuts doesn’t make sense.

is seeking a meeting with British Gas management in the next couple of weeks
for more detailed discussions.
