Scottish managers aim for better work-life balance in 2004

Almost
nine out of 10 managers in Scotland have resolved to work less in the new year,
according to research by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

The
survey of 2,400 managers across Britain showed 87 per cent of Scots were
determined to spend less time at their desks, while only 49 per cent of
managers in the South East and 54 per cent in the Midlands felt they were
working too much.

Petra
Cook, head of policy at the CMI, said: "Managers are demonstrating that they
recognise the need to switch off and look after themselves, especially if they
are to realise their ambitions and boost their prospects.

want the opportunity to develop their career, but career enhancement has a
price. It must be coupled with an improved home life too," she said.
