The
UK’s gender pay gap is the widest of any country in the European Union,
according to a new report.
The
research by business information company, Datamonitor, shows that British
women’s pay is on average more than one-thirds less than men’s.
However,
the study shows the disparity is due to the type of jobs women chose rather
than a result of discrimination.

The
author of the report, Andrew Russell, said that women were more likely to take
jobs such as social work, nursing and teaching, which offered lower salaries.
