Exposure
to dangerous substances at work is making more than half a million workers ill
according to the TUC.
It
claims that around a quarter of the 2.3 million employees suffering from
work-related illness blame exposure to substances such as latex, asbestos and
other chemicals for their health problems.
The
TUC is now urging safety representatives to put pressure on employers to make
the workplace safer by raising awareness of hazardous chemicals and dust and
the serious risks they can pose
The
union has also produced literature entitled ESCAPE to help reduce the risk of
exposure which can lead to asthma, dermatitis, cancer and birth defects.
