British
Telecom (BT) has saved millions of pounds and eased redundancy and efficiency
problems through the use of flexible working.
BT
says that ‘hot desking’ and encouraging employees to work from home has saved
the business £42m in London rent and rates bills.
The
telecoms company also claims that people working from home handle 20 per cent
more business than office-based staff and that absenteeism is lower at 3 per
cent, compared to an industry average of 8.5 per cent.

BT
believes that as a result of savings, it has been able to retain more than
1,000 staff.
