Employees
at City law firm Allen & Overy may sue the firm for breach of contract
after it announced it would be outsourcing jobs to India.
Last
week the firm told employees it would make about 45 of its 85
document-processing staff redundant and transfer the work to the Indian city of
Chennai.
Staff
will have to re-apply for their jobs and resit interviews after the firm
decided that outsourcing was ‘the most competitive business solution’ in terms
of service, quality and cost effectiveness.

Allen
& Overy follows in the footsteps of companies such as BT, which aims to
have 2,200 employees in Indian call centres by the end of the year.
