Boardroom
pay increased at seven times the rate of the average salary last year, despite
new powers allowing shareholders to vote on senior executive reward packages.
The
UK’s most senior executives at the top 100 companies received an average 23 per
cent rise, with 190 executive directors getting paid more than £1m last year.
Research
by the Guardian shows that the average total reward for a chief executive at a
FTSE100 company, including share schemes and bonuses, is now £1,677,685.

According
to the study, directors’ pay has jumped by 84 per cent in the last three years,
despite a slump of almost half in corporate stock during the same period.
