The
Metropolitan police is set to allow male Muslim officers to wear turbans while
on duty.
The
capital’s force said the change in policy was in response to pleas from serving
Muslim officers who wanted to wear their turbans at work.
Sikh
officers have been allowed to wear turbans with their uniforms for several years,
and female Muslim officers have had permission to wear traditional head dress
since last year.
The
move is also intended to improve ethnic minority recruitment and help the Met
hit tough diversity targets.
