Tesco
has denied launching a redundancy campaign among middle managers at its head
office, after newspaper reports suggested it was culling almost 100 executive
jobs.
The
supermarket chain admitted that some head office staff had left the firm, but
described the process as ‘natural wastage’.
A
spokesman for the retailer said that it was inevitable that some people would
choose to leave in a company of Tesco’s size.
He
went on to say that Tesco was not planning any redundancy programme and was, in
fact, creating an additional 20,000 new jobs worldwide.

"This
is just part of our ongoing drive to be more efficient. The numbers involved
are nothing like the 100 mentioned. With a workforce of 220,000 there will
always be people who choose to leave and roles that change," he explained.
