Dentists
and hospital doctors are to get a 3 per cent pay increase after the Government
introduced its pay review body’s recommendations.
The
rise will be backdated to 1 April and brings consultants and junior doctors the
same 3.225 per cent deal awarded to nurses and NHS staff.
The
pay rise will also apply to doctors and dentists currently in training.

However,
Dr Ian Bogle, chairman of the British Medical Association, said he was
disappointed with the award which fell short of the 5 per cent he believes was
necessary to avoid deterioration in pay levels in relation to other
occupations.
