IT
companies are neglecting to offer training opportunities to contract workers,
while still offering a plethora of courses to permanent staff.
Research
from recruitment consultants Elan shows that 80 per cent of employers offer
training to permanent staff but only 20 per cent do the same for IT
contractors.
As
a result, temporary staff are moving away from formal qualifications and
towards on-the-job training to boost their skills.
This
is in stark contrast to last year when under half preferred on-the-job
experience to formal qualifications.
The
research suggests that work-based training was becoming more popular because it
allows staff to be paid as they learn and builds more practical skills than
classroom training.
