Accor Services & RNIB urge employers not to lose sight of their employees’ health

by Personnel Today 17 Jun 2010
by Personnel Today 17 Jun 2010

Accor Services is helping employers communicate the importance of eye health and the need for regular eye tests during National Eye Health Week (14-20 June 2010).

In partnership with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), it has launched a range of communication tools to let employees know they may be eligible for an eye test. These include payslip inserts, posters, intranet material, newsletter content and email alerts, as well as providing face to face support for eyesight awareness events.

“National Eye Health Week is a great opportunity for employers to show their employees they care and Eyecare Vouchers are a tangible way of doing this, transforming what is essentially a compliance issue into a valuable employee benefit,” said Andrew Adams, Eyecare Voucher Manager at Accor Services.

“Often employees don’t realise that if they use a VDU or wear safety spectacles for work they could be eligible for a free eye test to keep their eyes healthy. And with an estimated 1.5 million workers taking time off work for eye-related illnesses, poor eye health could be very costly for British business.

“Many of the organisations we’re working with are taking full advantage of National eye Health week to remind their employees that they may be entitled to an Eyecare Voucher,” continues Adams.

“Every day another 100 people start to lose their sight, yet 50 per cent of sight problems are avoidable. Employers should not miss the opportunity to use Eye Health Week to promote the importance of eye tests – the first step to keeping your eyes healthy – and what better way to do this than to offer an Eyecare Voucher,” explains Harry Meade, Corporate Partnerships Executive at RNIB.
