Education
secretary Charles Clarke has signed a national agreement with the teachers’
unions and employers as part of a drive to raise standards and tackle teacher
workload.
The
agreement will provide more support staff in extended roles to give additional
help for teachers.
This
will include personal administrative assistants for teachers, improved
technical support, cover supervisors and new managers from outside the
education sector.
Schools
will receive the extra resources over the next three years, with the reforms
expected to cost about £1bn a year.
