Staff offered option of limitless holidays

Business consultancy Inbucon is offering its employees limitless holiday
entitlement.

The London-based organisation has switched from a traditional 25-day policy
as part of an overall company initiative to promote employee empowerment and
develop a less hierarchical structure.

The only guidelines are that holiday requests must be made in advance, and
staff must weigh their responsibilities to customers and colleagues when
deciding.

The concept, known as trust breaks or zero-allocation policy, originated in
the US, where users include global law firm Baker & McKenzie.

Inbucon chairman and chief executive David Brooks told Personnel Today that
some staff initially resisted the idea, preferring a standard holiday
allotment.

He said the difference between employees who embraced the concept and those
who did not was that those in favour typically worked in a strong team culture.
