Immigrant workers boost wage levels

Immigrant
workers boost wage levels rather than take jobs away from UK residents,
according to a government report.

The
Home Office study claims that one in ten of the working population are migrants
who bring a diversity of skills into the UK that complement the labour market.

It
finds that immigrants do not increase unemployment amongst the domestic
population but can increase wage levels.

Home
Office Minister, Beverley Hughes, said:" The research shows that it is
simply not true that migrants ‘take the jobs’ of the existing work force. It
confirms that migrants can add to our economy, expand businesses and create
success, jobs and opportunities for us all."
