Tractor workers set for action over plant closure

Transport
and General Workers’ Union members at the Massey Ferguson tractor plant have
voted in favour of industrial action, by a margin of four votes to one.

Union
members are angry at Agco’s decision to close the Coventry-based plant, which
will result in around 1000 job losses.

Workers
at Massey Ferguson have rejected the proposed redundancy package, and further
talks with the company have been scheduled for 2 September.

The
T&G said it will now consult with members on the form and timing of any
industrial action.

Peter
Booth, T&G National Organiser said: "The strength of the vote in
favour reflects the depth of anger that members feel over Agco’s decision to
close the Coventry plant. They feel let down by a company many have given their
working lives to. This factory is their livelihood.
