Tesco has announced plans to open 75 stores in the UK and 50 abroad by the
end of the year creating 20,000 new jobs.
Details of Tesco’s recruitment plans emerged after it revealed record
profits by a retail chain of £1.2bn.
David Fairhurst, Tesco’s global resourcing director, said that wherever
possible, the company would be promoting from within to fill the new posts
using its talent-spotting programme which identifies potential managers:
"Our first port of call is always looking inward to see what talent we
have and making sure we are developing that talent," he said.
The majority of the new jobs will be made up of general assistants and
retail managers.
Fairhurst said Tesco will be continuing its in-store recruitment advertising
as part of the new recruitment drive because of its success.

Tesco has also created a new micro-website for the recruitment of managers
as part of its careers website which was established in September last year.
Managerial applicants enter basic information, including their telephone
number, and are then contacted by a member of Tesco’s contact centre staff for
a discussion about their application.
