HR-related/specific courses MA Employment Studies and Human Resource Management (leading to Licentiateship of the CIPD); Postgraduate Diploma Human Resource Management (leading to CIPD membership); MA Human Resource Development (leading to CIPD membership); MA Human Resource Management (leading to CIPD membership); MA Human Resource Strategies; MA International Human Resource Management

Founded London Metropolitan University was created on 1 August 2002 by the merger of London Guildhall University (now London City campus) and the University of North London (now London North campus). Prior to the merger both institutions had long histories of providing quality education in the City and north and east London.

College CV From its dual bases in the City of London and Islington’s Holloway Road, the department of Management and Professional Development delivers a number of postgraduate and professional courses, including a part-time Executive MBA and a full-time MBA specialising in IT industries and another specialising in the Hospitality and Tourism industry. If you are a postgraduate student you can study for an MA in Management, Human Resource Management or Managerial Psychology or a Postgraduate Diploma in Management or Human Resource Management.

For corporations wishing to upskill their people in-house, MPD will design and deliver bespoke training courses in Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Management and HR Management. This includes the delivery of courses that lead to professional qualifications.

Many teaching staff in MPD are active researchers and this too informs the techniques used to deliver programmes in this progressive department. The aim of our research programmes is to share with students some practical ‘real world’ experiences and this is achieved through a blend of lecturing that delivers the results of academic research and industrial examples.

City Campus, situated in Moorgate in the heart of the City of London, is able to draw on the unrivalled expertise found in the country’s financial district. North Campus based at Stapleton House in Islington’s industrious Holloway Road, attracts full and part-time postgraduate students and also offers a number of undergraduate programmes in management, HR management Entrepreneurship and business psychology.

International students who want to study management, finance and professional working practices and standards can do so alongside local business managers and professionals while UK students who want exposure to international business cultures and systems find that London Metropolitan University’s MPD offers distinct benefits.

Entry requirements For the Postgraduate Diploma you should have a university degree or HND/C in an appropriate discipline. For the MA degrees, typical requirements include a good Honours degree, or an equivalent qualification. For the Human Resource Development and Human Resource Management courses applicants will be invited along to ‘mutual selection events’ where they will be asked to demonstrate that they have the required intellectual ability, prior experience, and the ability to learn independently. For the MA in Human Resource Strategies you should have at least three years’ practitioner experience at managerial level, and have a job role affording access to senior management, and opportunities to influence strategic processes.

Star HR academics Professor Yochanan Altman, whose specialist areas are international HRM and related subjects. He is a chartered psychologist and is editor of the Journal of Managerial Psychology and has also contributed to a number of books including Careers in the New
Millennium, Comparative Management
and Management des Resources Humaines a L’international Eyrolles.
