BA denies it is searching for new chairman

British
Airways denies it has bought in headhunters to look for a new chairman.

In
a statement to the London Stock Exchange the company responded to press
speculation that it is under pressure to replace Lord Marshall.

The
statement reads: "We are fully aware of our corporate governance
responsibilities as they relate to succession to the chairmanship and have the
necessary procedures in place for an orderly changeover, at the appropriate
time.

"Claims
that headhunters have been – or are about to be – appointed, are entirely
false."

Meanwhile,
the GMB union says it is "outraged" by British Airways’ announcement
that it is to cut 5,800 jobs.

Allan
Black, National Officer at the GMB said: "Workers at British Airways have
made massive sacrifices to support the company in the wake of the tragedy of 11
September and this is how they have been repaid.
